Creator

Amanda Southworth is a 15 year old iOS Developer, as well as a mental health and LGBTQ+ rights activist. She developed her first app, AnxietyHelper in September of 2015, which acts as a guidebook through the expansive world of mental illness. She then launched her second app, Verena, in May of 2017 as a security system for the LGBTQ+ community in the face of a slew of anti-LGBTQ+ legislation. Programming since 10, she turned her own struggles into a platform that allows her to solve problems facing America today. She then won Apple’s WWDC scholarship in June 2017, and became Teen Vogue’s correspondent. She reported live from the event and interviewed different artists and Apple Executives, such as Tim Cook, Esther Hare, Grimes, and Shaan Pruden. Following her WWDC experience, she was invited to be a speaker at TEDxPasadena, where she discussed how through programming, she recovered from various mental illnesses. She is currently working on Whizard, an education startup made with other WWDC scholars, which plans to launch in August of 2018.
